Channel 4 bow to public pressure – the live feed will return (finally!)

Channel 4 Big Brother 10 - Red Button live feed serviceThere’s been murmurings of discontent among devoted Big Brother fans this year at the absence of the red button service (aka the live feed). After a barrage of comments and criticism on the official site’s blog, angry messages on forums like Digital Spy and even an online petition it looks like the producers have finally seen sense…

On this evening’s Big Brother’s Little Brother, presenter George Lamb read out a prepared statement from the BB producers (in response to a viewers phone-in question):

They explained that the number of viewers using the service had dropped significantly, and that most people were chosing to watch clips via the official website instead. However, the producers have now promised that the live feed will return for late night streaming! WOO HOO!

And if that isn’t good news enough in itself, our top picks of hottest babes this year have all secured official housemate status – after passing various tasks in the past 24 hours:

———
edit/update: – on second thoughts and after properly digesting the statement, this isn’t the red button service that us die-hard fans crave… just a few hours of late-night live coverage from the house (like we got last night). Why do Channel 4 feel it necessary to bombard the schedule with repeats of Friends, when they could be showing live BB10 coverage during the day

Sign the online petition and keep the pressure up on CH4!!

update2: News Of The World blogger Peter Briffa has a brilliant piece on The Ten Biggest BB Moments that never made the highlights – arguing that without the live feed we’d have never known the true facts of many scenarios in the house; especially the selective editting decisions the BB producers take to guide the ‘story’ and sway the public each year. The live feed is an essential part of Big Brother as it allows us hardcore fans (who watch around the clock) to form our own opinions.

Briffa also has a few more opinionated BB blog articles that make great reading:

update3: here is the official Channel 4 statement about the red button in full:

No Red Button facility on this year’s Big Brother
The red button 24-hour streaming facility was discontinued prior to the last series of CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER and we have no plans to reintroduce this service for the current edition of BIG BROTHER.

The main reason behind this decision is that we’ve found the number of viewers choosing to use the red button facility has dropped significantly and more and more viewers chose to watch the clips provided on the official Big Brother and other websites. So we have shifted our resources to cover these areas and have new fanzones, on Twitter and Facebook as well as our own site, and we’ll also be working extensively with partners such as bebo, youtube and MSN to deliver footage to Big Brother fans to keep them fully up-to-date with what’s happening in the house.

However, live streaming will be available on both E4 and Channel 4 late night/early morning and we will be showing all the other great shows that make up the BIG BROTHER experience, like BIG BROTHER’S LITTLE BROTHER AND BIG BROTHER’S BIG MOUTH.

We appreciate that viewers may be disappointed by this decision, but we hope that despite the lack of the red button service, you will enjoy this year’s series.

Fascinating blog post details BB10 star Angel McKenzie’s background

Rhodri Marsden, (a blogger, journalist and musician) has a brilliant little piece on his personal blog about new BB10 star Angel McKenzie. It would appear that Rhodri’s old boss was married to Angel, so he has a real insight into her personality and background story.

BB10 Angel

Rhodri states that Angel has previously assumed the aliases of Space Angel, Sadko, Helen Sadko, Elena Tchebotareva and Helen Hobbs (the latter possibly being her birth name?)

There is a link to Angel’s official website ("the official site since 2001" it claims, and indeed I agree with Rhodri – the web design looks pretty dated!). You can listen to her songs online – there’s an 18-track solo album ‘Before I Became A Boxer’ available for £12 – although having listened to a couple of tracks I can’t imagine anyone wanting to own a copy (sorry Angel!). She was also in Russian rock band Atas, although I did a quick Google search and couldn’t find any official site or MySpace.

If you’re interested in finding out more about our new BB10 housemate Angel McKenzie, you’ll find plenty on her content-packed site: Read about her music career, watch her music videos, learn about her boxing career and watch her previous bouts, view her artwork, read her lyrics and poetry, view images and photos and check out her biography…. etc)

Screengrabs of Sophie Reade topless from BBBM live stream

On the first episode of Big Brother’s Big Mouth presented by Davina on E4 (Thursday 4th June 2009 around 10:20pm), they cut live to the house to show the housemates changing out of their own clothes, and into BB uniform. The cameras focussed on Sophie Reade changing her top and holding her bra:

Latest initial odds on Big Brother 10 outright winner from Paddy Power

Irish Bookmaker Paddy Power have compiled the latest odds on who they think will win BB10

Our screengrab of the Big Brother 10 winners odds below was taken at 2:55am on Friday 5th June – almost five hours after the launch show finished trasmission on CH4

Latest odds on Big Brother 10 outright winner from Paddy Power (Friday 5th June 2009 at 02:55am)

Clearly they don’t fancy the chances of the Big Brother Girls this year, as all the boys are rated 20/1 shots or less – with Rodrigo currently 4/1 favourite. By contrast, most of the girls are 20/1 or above (with the exception of Sophia and Noirin). In actual fact, the true favourite is ‘any other’… meaning they expect another new housemate (not in the initial 16) to enter the house and win.

Big Brother 10 – Outright Winner Odds from Paddy Power
4/1 Rodrigo
7/1 Charlie
8/1 Kris
8/1 Sophia
10/1 Cairon
12/1 Marcus
14/1 Noirin
14/1 Sree
16/1 Freddie
20/1 Siavash
20/1 Sophie
20/1 Lisa
25/1 Beinazir
25/1 Saffia
33/1 Karly
33/1 Angel
3/1 Any Other (Not Listed)

We’ve already been told by Big Brother that 2 people will not become full housemates, and these odds suggest Angel and Karly won’t make the cut…
